Scarpa!

After discovering the effectiveness of my "secondary"palette, I decided to reapply it. The subject was a largely monochromatic one (a bit like a portrait): my sturdy leather walking boots (which were made by Scarpa, and have been in my possession since January 1993).


After that, it was a small step to thinking about comparing the secondary palette with a primary one... but which set of primaries? It was no good. I needed to do two primary paintings.

Secondary Scarpas
Cadium Orange, Sap Green, Deep Indigo,
(Buff Titanium)

Warm Primary Scarpas
Cadmium Red. Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine,
(Titanium White)

Cool Primary Scarpas
Process Magenta, Lemon Yellow, Phthalo Blue,
(Titanium White)

All three studies were done, with a 1 cm brush, in System 3 acrylic on bits of the sort of cardboard that you get backing a pad of paper. Given the latter, you'll be unsurprised to know that the above paintings are all roughly A4...
