Lumberjack Poppies - SOLD

Towards the end of the poppy season, we took an evening stroll up on the local hills, and encountered poppies growing in front of a large pile of logs.

This image, however, is a composite. The wind was blowing the actual  log stack poppies around, and - to be honest - the poppy season was nearly over, so I used some poppies from another photograph. The scruffy greenery is sticky buds, more properly known as cleavers.

In-Progress Shots and Palette Notes:

Log background: Burnt Umber, Ultramarine, Titanium White, Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Green, Cadmium Yellow.

Sticky buds: Cadmium Green, Titanium White, Phthalo Blue
Poppies: Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow (later reduced), Phthalo Blue, Titanium White, Lemon Yellow (stalks and seed heads)

Oil on box canvas, 40x40cm
