LEGO Chess

That book the Blue Bishop was reading? It must have been Chess for Minifigures.

This will exist as a flexible, printed, magnetic game, but the image above is a mock-up.

LEGO Minifigures 71: Red Bishop

The bishops in my recent sub-series have been causing me some consternation. The clergy seem underrepresented in LEGO world (this is not a complaint; I am not a theist, and I'm reasonably certain that small plastic figures have little need for religious guidance). Then it occurred to me to make the bishops into monks, and with a little help from eBay and a Jedi knight, here is the first bishop. I expect his blue counterpart will turn up eventually.

LEGO® Minifigures 56: Warrior King - SOLD

I thought of several names for this grey-bearded fellow, who is evidently regal. The lion on his breastplate suggests that he could be the Lion King; the big shiny sword makes me think of Excalibur, which could make him King Arthur (but Arthur was a bear, not a lion). Perhaps he is, simply, King LEGO.

Lego Minifigures 14: "Red Queen"

Another of Bethnoir's loaned minifigures; I think this must be a queen from the Kingdom range, but I have just called her the Red Queen, which brings to mind a character in Lewis Carroll's book, Through the Looking Glass. That Red Queen was a chess piece (another series I had in mind... although my chess set is quite plain), of course, and this regal lady is not.

And before you go calling for their heads to be removed, remember that it was the Queen of Hearts (in Alice in Wonderland) whose catchphrase was "Off with their heads!"
