Trees and Seeds

This is a drawing made from a photograph that I took last Wednesday as I headed out on a longish walk on the downs. The trees may look familiar; they are the "Skyline" trees on Plantation Hill, featured in several of my paintings and drawings.

The sun was more or less behind those trees, low in the sky (for it is getting late in the year and the morning was not old), and it illuminated the cow parsley seed heads beautifully. The black paper emphasises the contrasts and echoes the darkness of the land against the bright sky. I used two ranges of Derwent pencils - Coloursoft for its brightness, Drawing for its waxy covering ability.
