The Woolhampton Green People

Green Man; Green Lady
Acrylic ink on A3 Bockingford rough watercolor paper

Nearly 18 months ago, I posted some pencil sketches made of two carved faces from a local church, St Peter's in Upper Woolhampton. These pictures are based on those sketches.  The faces are Victorian (the church was rebuilt in 1857) and, with their surroundings of leaves, the gentleman's leafy moustache and the vegetation emerging from the lady's mouth, are in the green man tradition. I fancy that they might represent the local landowner and his wife.

Picture This - the pictures

Last October, this happened - but I didn't show you any pictures. So, here they are... along with the relevant bits of my cringeworthy parody lyrics.

All I want is red, yellow and blue
A sight worth seeing, a vision of New(bury)
From atop a car park with a view, oh-oh
Town hall clock, chiming the hour
Sterling cables, the telecom tower
Corn Exchange, chimneys and roofs, oh yeah

and

Picture this... a day in October
Picture this... reasonable weather
Artists in town, wielding cameras and canvas
Is that someone painting the garage?
If you could only oh-oh
Picture this... with acrylic and knife
Picture this... a Victorian gas works

The Railway Hotel - Better Photographs

A slightly better photograph of the whole painting, taken in subdued daylight, and - below - a couple of close-up shots that worked out quite well.

The Railway Hotel, Bromley

This is a pub with a history, with famous clientele (I am told that Ernest Hemmingway, H.G.Wells and David Bowie have all drunk here, although not, one imagines, all at the same time) and a reputation as a live venue (as can be seen in the small acrylic I made in September, reproduced below.)
