Mini Pumpkins

Acrylic on canvas, 20 x 20 cm each
It's that time of year. Pumpkins and squashes are in the shops; some will get carved, some will get eaten, some will get painted... and its possible that some will get all three. These two mini pumpkins have managed one so far.

Roots (Avebury) for the Prince's Trust - SOLD

This is a further development of the ideas being explored in Avebury Roots 1, 2 and 3.

Last week, I was surprised by the arrival of a 20 cm square canvas in the post, with the request that I create a painting on it for the Prince's Trust to sell at the Reading Contemporary Art Fair. This was what I painted.

I might have to do a few similar pieces for my stand at the fair, too...

Victoria Sandwich (Chocolate Cake)

Victoria Sandwich - Chocolate Cake - Still Life - Acrylic

It was surprisingly difficult getting the right level of not-brown in this one.

It is a homemade cake. I put so much cocoa powder in the butter icing that you can barely taste the sugar.

Caramel Shortbread or Millionaire's Stack

A sight variation on the cakes theme; technically a biscuit, these were homemade (all the others were shop-bought, which I feel a little ashamed about) and the image you see is a scan of the painting, not a photograph.

Blueberry Muffin

This cake needed to be disturbed for a more interesting picture. It was still delicious, even after a couple of hours of sitting in its broken state.

Palette: Pyrrole Red, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Phthalo Blue and two flavours of Titanium (White and Buff).

September in the Abstract

Two abstracts-in-progress (both 20 x 20 cm) from yesterday.

My 8-year-old daughter tested out my dribbly acrylic technique;
I tested out the idea of 'tutoring' (and had another go at the dribbly acrylic thing).
I'm not sure, but I think I may have learnt more than she did... except what I learnt wasn't about how to *do* art.

Last September, I posted my first consciously abstract painting, along with an analogy between music and visual art.

This September, I posted my biggest abstract painting to date (I don't make much abstract art), done using a technique that I hadn't tried before.

And... all of a sudden, I have suddenly started noticing abstracts dotted around the online galleries that I frequent when I'm not blogging, painting or otherwise engaged. Is it the time of year?

Doughnut

There were five doughnuts in the packet. One each, and one to paint. "But who is going to eat the last doughnut?" asked my daughter. Good question...

He's an imposing fellow, but, underneath the headgear, he's...

Pumpkin Half

So, I finally got around to making my "Autumn Soup" (it's still bubbling in the pan; I can't tell you what it tastes like yet).

Poppy Square

What else to finish this short series of floral squares with but poppies?

Sunflower Square (Last Sunflower)

It was our last remaining sunflower, and it's a square painting... as it's part of a short series of close-up flowers outdoors but with no sky, the "Square" title takes precedence.

I think Sunflower Square would be a lovely address. So would Bluebell Square, of course...
